Woodcoombe under 7's

Woodcoombe Under 7's won the Woodcoombe six-a-side tournament after a 1-0 victory in the final against Cuxton, after extra time. Woodcoombe (next year's Under 8's) entered two sides in the competition and both sides progressed comfortably through the group stages to the semi finals, having to play each other at that stage.  The "B" team beat the"A" team 3-0 in the semis to reach the final.  Congratulations should go to both Woodcoombe sides as between them they beat every team in the competition, which was a fantastic achievement.  The winning Woodcoombe side was made up of the following players: Kian Knight, Rhys Jeffery, Lewis Adams, Oliver Hill, John Turner, Charlie Taylor.

Woodcoombe under 11's

Woodcoombe under 11's entered two teams in to the Lordswood Youth Tournament six-a-side competition on Sunday 1st June. Although one of the teams entered were not successful in qualifying in their group, the other team ended top of their group by winning 4 games and drawing one. This resulted in a semi-final match against the event organisers Lordswood, which the Woodcoombe team won 2-0. The final was between Woodcoombe and Riverview, the only team to score a goal against us in the qualifying round resulting in a 1-1 draw. The final saw Woodcoombe take the lead and hold the one goal advantage till the half-time whistle. However, Riverview came out in the second half fighting and were almost instantly rewarded with an equaliser, before netting again to go 2-1 ahead. Woodcoombe equalised before the end of full-time which resulted in a 5 minute period of extra time. Riverview were first to score before Woodcoombe again equalised in the final moments of the game. The result was a tense penalty shoot-out, which Woodcoombe won 3-2.

An excellent team performance and a well deserved tournament win!

Woodcoombe Five a side Tournament

Woodcoombe Youth held their first Tournament for many years over the weekend of 16th - 17th June.
The Tournament was a great success with 72 teams taking part in age groups under 7's to under 14's.
All games went off on time, with some age groups actually finishing ahead of schedule! This was down to the tremendous effort and teamwork of the many volunteers and referees who all worked together with determination to make the Tournament such a success.
